Zico held a pre-premiere screening of a documentary about his life on Monday at a shopping centre in Barra da Tijuca, in Rio de Janeiro's southwest. According to Globo.com, the event drew club figures, relatives and friends.
From the current squad, Paquetá, Jorginho, Pedro, Léo Ortiz and Saúl attended, alongside club president Bap.
The film, 'Zico o Samurai de Quintino', traces the Galinho's roots in Rio's north through to the end of his playing days in Japan. It looks beyond the pitch, including a quiet life in Quintino, a youthful engagement and his relationship with his young children.
Zico stressed it is not a film about goals, but about challenges, hardships and the questions that shaped his career.
Saúl said he grasped Zico's stature after meeting him at the Vicente Calderón, where he heard he was among the world's greats. He added he had not seen him play and would now do so on screen, praising a legacy that goes beyond football.
Personal trials also feature, among them a serious knee injury that altered his career, the death of friend Geraldo and Brazil's painful World Cup exits in 1982 and 1986.
The film also revisits Flamengo's rise alongside Junior, Adílio and others. Club greats Jaime de Almeida, Andrade, Alcino and Leandro attended.
Directed by João Wainer, it opens in cinemas on 30 April. Producers are Vudoo filmes and Guará entretenimento, with Globo filmes, Sportv, Pontos de Fuga and Investimage as coproducers.
