Zico headlined a special pre-premiere in Brasília on Tuesday for the documentary Zico: Samurai de Quintino, part of a Brazil-wide promotion.

According to Coluna Do Fla, he arrived smiling, walked the red carpet at the cinema at Park Shopping and greeted fans, with former Flamengo player Léo Moura among attendees.

He held a press conference, watched the screening, then stayed on to pose for photos and sign autographs.

Directed by João Wainer, the film opens in cinemas on 30 April and charts his career while delving into his private life through rare personal archive, including behind-the-scenes and family footage.

It blends material from different eras with testimonies from Flamengo greats Mozer, Adílio and Andrade to sketch the man behind the No 10.

Zico said viewers would see more than goals, describing a professional life of dedication, joy and tears, doubts and certainties, and what he believes is a legacy for future generations.

He retired in 1991, then returned to the pitch to help build Kashima Antlers and Japan’s professional league, inspiring the phrase Spirit of Zico.

Filming began in 2023 during his 70th celebrations and ran to 2025 across Brazil and Japan, concluding in a year when Flamengo won the fourth Libertadores and Kashima claimed a ninth J-League title.

Now 73, he serves as a Flamengo ambassador and a Kashima Antlers adviser.
