Zinedine Zidane appointed France head coach until 2030 | OneFootball

Zinedine Zidane has been appointed France head coach on a deal running to the 2030 World Cup. The French Football Federation confirmed the move on Tuesday, handing the former Real Madrid manager his first senior national-team post.

His arrival closes Didier Deschamps’ more than decade-long reign, which delivered the Russia 2018 World Cup and the 2021 Nations League, and reached the Qatar 2022 final.

The decision followed the 2026 World Cup, where France reached the semi-finals but lost to Spain, then were beaten by England in the third-place play-off.

At his unveiling, Zidane said the France job was the only role he wanted. He thanked the federation and said he is excited to start a new cycle targeting another major international title.

As a player he won the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000, scored 31 in 108 caps, and claimed the 1998 Ballon d’Or. He starred for Juventus and Real Madrid.

In management he led Real Madrid from 2016 to 2018 and again from 2019 to 2021, lifting three consecutive Champions Leagues. He also won two LaLiga titles, two Spanish Super Cups, two UEFA Super Cups and two Club World Cups.

Since leaving Madrid he had turned down offers while waiting for the right project. With a contract to 2030, he now carries the task of returning France to the summit of the world game.
