Zinédine Zidane is expected to be confirmed as France head coach on Tuesday 28 July, signalling the handover from Didier Deschamps.

According to L'Équipe, the French federation has been shaping Zidane's backroom for months, with regular talks between the future coach and president Philippe Diallo. The FFF wished to honour Deschamps's 14-year tenure, but he declined, instead sending a long thank-you note to staff.

Preparations at the boulevard de Grenelle headquarters have intensified ahead of the announcement. A press conference could accompany his unveiling, not necessarily on the same day. Zidane's initial term is planned for four years.

August is due to be used to finalise a largely refreshed and expanded staff, aiming to increase female representation. Zidane is poised to be joined by close lieutenants David Bettoni and Hamidou Msaidie. The set-up should also include fitness coach Grégory Dupont and 1998 champions Fabien Barthez and Bernard Diomède.

Leaders of the new structure are expected to have latitude over hires, with some arrivals not beginning until early September. France then face four Nations League games, Türkiye-France on 25 September, Belgium-France on 28 September, France-Italy on 2 October and France-Belgium on 5 October, all to be shown on TF1, as with Euro 2028, the first competition Zidane is due to contest.

The FFF must also resolve outgoing contracts and decide on Mohamed Sanhadji, the long-serving security chief close to Zidane, rehired for the last World Cup after early retirement over a donation from the Mbappé family.
