England’s U17s saw their World Cup campaign end in Doha with a 4-0 defeat to Austria.

The Young Lions held their own in a goalless first half, creating chances through Alejandro Rodriguez and Reigan Heskey, with goalkeeper Jack Porter also making a couple of strong saves to keep them in the tie.

The second half turned decisively against England. Hasan Deshihsku opened the scoring, and a red card for Rodriguez on the 50th minute left England down to ten men.

Two further goals followed, including a VAR-awarded penalty from Johannes Moser, while Ifeanyi Ndukwu added a late strike to complete the heavy defeat.

Despite the loss, England showed promise early on and will return home with valuable experience, while Austria progress to face Japan in the quarter-finals.
