Sunderland visit West Ham United on Saturday chasing back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time since mid-October. Sunderland Echo highlights 10 players to have represented both clubs, with West Ham beating Tottenham 2-1.

Arthur Masuaku arrived from Besiktas in the summer, having made 128 West Ham appearances, and has four outings so far behind Reinildo. Aji Alese, a Hammers academy product, joined in 2022 and has 46 Sunderland appearances but none since promotion.

Jermain Defoe is 10th on the Premier League’s all-time list with 162 goals, 52 of them for Sunderland and West Ham combined. He later scored 37 for Sunderland after Toronto FC and returned in 2021/22 without a League One goal.

Stewart Downing hit three in seven on loan at Sunderland in 2003/04, later spending 2013 to 2015 at West Ham.

George McCartney came through at Sunderland, moved to West Ham in 2006, returned in 2009, then finished back in East London. Andy Melville made over 200 Sunderland appearances, then featured 18 times for West Ham before retiring at Nottingham Forest.

Anton Ferdinand featured 163 times for West Ham, then 95 for Sunderland from 2008 to 2011. Don Hutchison scored 13 with two assists in 38 Hammers outings, joined Sunderland in 2000, then returned in 2001.

Gary Breen, signed from West Ham in 2003, helped Sunderland win the 2005 Championship before the 15-point season. David Connolly scored 14 in 45 for West Ham in 2003/04 and 13 with eight assists in Sunderland’s 2006/07 promotion.
