FC Bayern continue to march through the Bundesliga, with a spectacular victory in Freiburg bringing a historic mark very close.
With the late 3-2 win at SC Freiburg, the Munich side not only picked up three points, but also achieved an impressive record. Lennart Karl’s decisive goal in stoppage time was also the record champions‘ 100th goal of the season.
Vincent Kompany’s team are now just one goal short of equaling the historic Bundesliga record from the 1971/72 season, when FC Bayern also set the mark of 101 goals.
The 18-year-old attacking player’s goal came in the midst of a dramatic match, with Munich trailing for a long time before turning the game around in the closing stages and finally getting their reward.

The team had previously scored 97 goals after the clear victory against Union Berlin, but the tally has now risen to 100 goals after 28 matchdays – a figure that impressively underlines their attacking dominance.
Kompany had already put the significance of such figures into perspective after the Union game: „I’m not someone who wants to talk about such records. I’m not particularly interested in that. I think we will break this record, but I have other priorities,“ explained the Bayern coach.
Nevertheless, the numbers speak for themselves. Hardly any other team is currently as consistent and prolific as Munich’s attack, which regularly creates numerous chances regardless of the opponent. The next Bundesliga match now offers the next opportunity to finally reach the historic mark. Just one goal would be enough to break the old record.
First up, however, is the CL thriller at Real Madrid on Tuesday, where Munich will be looking to score again and start the second leg in Munich in a good position.
