£126m Liverpool transfer target CONFIRMS he received offers to LEAVE his club | OneFootball

A Liverpool transfer target has said his club refused to let him leave over the summer despite interest in his signature.

Georgiy Sudakov is a 22-year-old attacking midfielder currently playing for Shakhtar Donetsk. He came through the ranks at the club, and has now made himself a key figure there, whilst also becoming a staple of the Ukrainian national team, starting all three of their games at the Euros this summer.

Liverpool’s interest in Sudakov

A report from Football365 in March said that Michael Edwards was hoping to bring Sudakov to the Premier League and make him the first big signing of the post-Jurgen Klopp era.

Later Fabrizio Romano shared that Sudakov had a €150m release clause which is roughly £126m.

However, despite these links, he remained with the club, and played in their Champions League opener today, a draw away to Bologna, in which he missed an early penalty.

The previous summer, which saw Liverpool bring in four midfielders, Calciomercato said Liverpool were “one step away” from signing the Ukrainian. With some believing he could have been an alternative to Ryan Gravenberch back then.

He has now confirmed to Italian publication Repubblica that he did indeed receive offers to leave his club this summer.

“Is it true that Juve and Milan wanted me? Yes, I received those offers, but they were rejected by Shakhtar," Sudakov said.

Do Liverpool need Sudakov?

Typically an attacking midfielder, the Ukranian is not necessarily the profile the Reds are in pursuit of.

Slot's side needs more of a holding midfielder rather than another no.10. There is Dominik Szoboszlai and Harvey Elliott who can fulfil those roles.

However, Sudakov is a talented player and he has been heavily linked with the club so he is one to keep an eye on.

Although it does not seem like Shakhtar are willing to let him go easily.
