Davie Russell scored

ONE – SATURDAY 15 JANUARY 1898 – Celtic maintain their unbeaten run in the Scottish League with a narrow but decisive 2-1 win over Dundee at Celtic Park before 6,000 spectators who see Dundee score first through an own goal by John Welford, Jimmy Blessington equalises from open play and then after Dan Doyle misses a penalty and the referee orders a retake, Doyle shows reluctance to have another go and Davie Russell steps up, spits on his hands and does the needful. Barney Battles, now temporarily out of favour at Celtic Park, is playing for Dundee.

Jimmy Quinn scored twice

TWO – SATURDAY 15 JANUARY 1910 – The struggling Port Glasgow side were no real opposition to Celtic at Parkhead on a dull and dreich day. Celtic won 4-0 with two goals from Jimmy Quinn and one each from Davie Hamilton and Willie Loney. Celtic look comfortably on course for their sixth successive League title.

THREE – SATURDAY 15 JANUARY 1921 – Celtic usually get a tough game at Cappielow, and this one was no exception, although the game was clean and the large crowd was well behaved. Celtic were indebted to a brilliant equaliser from Tommy McInally to earn a 1-1 draw, but as Rangers beat Hamilton today, this is not a good result.

FOUR – SATURDAY 15 JANUARY 1966 – Celtic’s first defeat since September as they go down 1-3 to Aberdeen at Pittodrie on a frosty day, their only goal coming from Joe McBride. Jock Stein doesn’t exactly laugh it off, but says that a defeat has to happen sometime, and hopes that it will do no long term damage.

Murdo McLeod scored

FIVE – SATURDAY 15 JANUARY 1983 – In a game that really should never been played because of the high wind, Celtic go down to a late Motherwell winner at Fir Park. It is an unfortunate defeat, and one that will cost Celtic dearly at the end of the season. Murdo McLeod scored for Celtic as they went down 1-2 in a mockery of a game, Motherwell’s late winner being scored in the last minute by Brian McClair.
