Today, 9th September, marks one full year since the FC Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal went into the operation theatre to undergo surgery for his torn ACL of the left leg and an associated injury to the meniscus.

After that successful surgery, carried out by Dr. Carles Monllau, the La Masia-trained youngster was stipulated to go on a recovery process that would last for 12 months. During this time, Bernal has worked very hard to recover from such a traumatic injury, and his efforts bore fruit when he got the green light to play again on August 10th.

However, despite this medical discharge, he was still lacking the final nod from the technical department. According to SPORT, this green light is also expected to arrive soon, and can come as soon as this week, when the squad will be announced for the game between Barcelona and Valencia. Bernal’s name is expected to be on this list.

Thus, this will be a special match for the youngster, particularly so as he also made his official first-team debut against the same team, but at Mestalla, at the start of the last season.

Now, he is close to completing the circle of his recovery, but Hansi Flick is still expected to take a very careful approach with him to ensure this injury does not have any more long-term implications for him.
