Elversberg and Hannover played out a lively 2-2 draw that could have gone either way, while Münster produced an impressive comeback win over Kiel.

SV Elversberg 2 - 2 Hannover 96

With both sides pushing near the top of the table, it was little surprise that the early stages were cagey, each team hesitant to show their hand too soon. Hannover carved out the first big chance through Benjamin Källman, who smartly created space inside the box but was denied by the post.

Elversberg took the lead 22 minutes in when Jan Gyamerah’s pinpoint cross found Lukas Petkov, who headed home superbly for 1-0. Barely ten minutes later, Petkov almost doubled his tally - his fierce, dipping strike from distance forced Nahuel Noll into an excellent reflex save.

Hannover hit back before the break. After Kolja Oudenne was twice denied in quick succession, he turned provider three minutes before half-time, delivering a fine cross to the back post where Källman headed onto Florian Le Joncour who scored the equaliser into his own goal despite Nicolas Kristof’s efforts. It was 1-1 at the half, with Hannover carrying the momentum into the second period.

Vincent Wagner introduced top scorer Younes Ebnoutalib at the interval to sharpen Elversberg’s attack, though it was Hannover who went close first - Enzo Leopold’s free kick grazing the top of the bar. The match then descended into a scrappy arm wrestle marked by stoppages and minor fouls from around the 55-minute mark.

The script flipped again when Elversberg were awarded a soft-looking penalty after Jannik Rochelt was judged to have pushed Frederik Schmahl in the box. Petkov’s spot-kick was saved brilliantly by Noll, but Bambase Conté reacted quickest to bury the rebound and restore the hosts’ lead. Their joy was short-lived - just five minutes later, Leopold’s free kick was met by Virgil Ghiță, whose towering header left Kristof helpless to level things once more at 2-2.

Elversberg pushed late on as added time approached, with the lively Petkov again forcing Noll into another difficult save.

The referee’s whistle brought an end to an entertaining encounter with honours even at 2-2 - a result that does little for either side. Elversberg drop points for the second game running but move up to second temporarily, while Christian Titz’s Hannover side take a respectable point on the road, remaining fourth ahead of the weekend’s other fixtures.

Preußen Münster 2 - 1 Holstein Kiel

Münster’s evening began in frustrating fashion as Malik Batmaz was forced off early with an injury, potentially extending their list of absentees to eight senior players. Kiel capitalised on the early disruption and took the lead 18 minutes in when Lasse Rosenboom released Alexander Bernhardsson, whose first-time cross found Adrián Kaprálik to make it 1-0 - Bernhardsson’s fifth straight goal contribution for Kiel.

Münster gradually grew into the contest, striking the bar when Charalampos Makridis met a dangerous low cross. Despite that, the first-half stats heavily favoured Kiel, who almost doubled their lead in stoppage time through Bernhardsson, only for his shot to roll agonisingly wide.

Alexander Ende’s side emerged with renewed purpose after the break, while Kiel appeared content to absorb pressure and hit on the counter. That plan fell apart just before the hour mark when Yassine Bouchama was brought down in the area. Oliver Batista Meier stepped up to coolly send Jonas Krumrey the wrong way, levelling the score at 1-1.

Buoyed by the equaliser, Münster pressed for a second and were relieved to see Bernhardsson’s goal ruled out for offside moments later. Their persistence was rewarded in the 77th minute when Kiel failed to clear a long throw-in - the loose ball fell to Bouchama, who rifled home to complete the turnaround and make it 2-1.

Kiel threw men forward in the closing stages but looked short on ideas against a resilient Münster defence, who held firm through eleven minutes of added time to secure a vital win.

It was a big night for Münster - showing remarkable resilience amid their injury crisis to claim a first victory since September, moving them up to ninth (temporarily). For Kiel, a disappointing second half collapse and a fifth consecutive league match without a win, dropping them to 11th in the standings for now.
