The 2024/25 Genero Adran Premier season has been marked by intense competition, notable performances and late goals as teams vie for supremacy in Welsh women’s football.
At the end of phase one on November 3rd, the league standings reflect the dynamic nature of the campaign. We’ve taken a look at what has happened so far this season and what to expect when phase two commences.
Leading the table with 16 points from seven matches, Cardiff City have secured five wins, one draw and one loss, while boasting a goal difference of +10.
Close behind Cardiff, the New Saints have accumulated 14 points from seven matches with four wins, two draws and one loss, and a goal difference of +14.
Swansea City have banked 13 points so far through four wins, a draw and a loss. They hold a goal difference of +2 after six games.
The newly promoted side have made an impressive start so far. Briton Ferry Llansawel have secured 11 points from six matches, with a goal difference of +9 and a game in-hand above Barry Town United.
Barry Town also have 11 points, from three wins, two draws and two losses, with a goal difference of +1.
Accumulating nine points from seven matches, Wrexham sit sixth with three wins and four losses, with a goal difference of +1.
Struggling so far this season, Aberystwyth Town have managed only one point from seven matches, and a goal difference of -18.
Similarly, Cardiff Met have just the 1 point and sit bottom of the table with a goal difference of -19.
The defending champions have continued their strong form, leading the league with a solid goal difference and consistent performances. Right before the break, they triumphed over Barry Town United 3-0 at home, with one of their most comfortable wins. Ffion Price has been a key piece of the puzzle for the Bluebirds. She has been their standout player on multiple occasions, scoring goals when Cardiff City most need her. With her in fine form, we are frequently seeing why she has been the back-to-back Adran Player of the Season.
With their goal difference of +14 the highest in the league, second place The New Saints have showcased a potent attack, making them serious title contenders this season. TNS have had two 5-0 wins and one 6-1 win, showing their ability to score consistently and frequently in this league. We can only anticipate them to continue this fine scoring form. Their eyes will be on the fixture against Cardiff City on January 5th, as it could be a crucial one for top of the table.
As newcomers to the league, Briton Ferry Llansawel have exceeded expectations, currently sitting in fourth place and demonstrating resilience and skill. Their unbeaten run came to an end before the break as Wrexham breezed past them 3-0.
In their first three opening games, Briton Ferry scored 12 goals comfortably and conceded none. They have shown how they can compete with The New Saints and Cardiff City when it comes to scoring goals, something vital in this competitive league.
Both Aberystwyth Town and Cardiff Met have faced challenges, each securing only a single point thus far, indicating a need for strategic changes to improve their standings. As they will both use this break to regroup and devise a new strategy before the next phase of fixtures and look to turn their season around, hoping they can write their wrongs in this tough division.
Phase two of the Genero Adran Premier season kicks off on November 24th, promising some intriguing match-ups as teams battle for positions and momentum. League leaders Cardiff City will face bottom-placed Cardiff Met in a local derby. Despite a challenging phase one, Cardiff Met, buoyed by home advantage, will be looking to turn their season around with a strong start to phase two.
Meanwhile, Briton Ferry host Aberystwyth Town in a clash that could prove vital for mid-table stability. While The New Saints take on Wrexham in a match that pits two ambitious sides against each other. Barry Town will also meet Swansea City in a fixture with significant implications for the top-half standings.With eight weeks of fixtures remaining, stretching through to February, the competition is set to heat up.
