There seems to be some sort of strange connection between Manchester United and FC Barcelona midfielders. Transfer window after transfer window, the Red Devils appear to have an interest in signing one Barcelona midfielder or another.

For quite a few seasons now, Man Utd have been linked with a transfer for Barcelona midfield star Frenkie de Jong. However, despite the Dutchman having returned to his very best in recent times, it looks like the Red Devils have pivoted their attention to another player.

As per Fichajes, Manchester United have identified Marc Casadó as one of their top priorities for the upcoming transfer window. The 21-year-old Spanish midfielder is highly regarded by Rúben Amorim, who sees him as a key piece to strengthen United’s midfield.

With the aim of forming a solid double pivot alongside Kobbie Mainoo and providing an alternative to Manuel Ugarte, reports suggest that the English club is willing to make a significant financial effort to secure Casadó’s signature

It is even claimed that United’s initial offer could be in the region of €80 million—a figure that would put Barcelona’s resolve to the test.

Until the start of the season, Marc Casado was a relatively unknown quantity outside of Barcelona. Having spent years with Barça Atlètic and captaining them last season, he had patiently waited for a chance with the first team.

Although he was included in several squads under Xavi Hernández last season, he received few opportunities on the pitch. However, his fortunes changed with the arrival of Hansi Flick and Marc Bernal’s ACL injury.

Thrown into the deep end at Barcelona due to a variety of factors, Casado had taken to first-team football like a fish to water and has hardly put a foot wrong so far this season despite having to deal with competition from Frenkie.

Irrespective of what Man Utd offer to Barcelona, there is no reason for them to accept a sale for Marc Casado. He is one of the most important players in the team and the club should look to keep him for a long time. Let’s wait and see how it plays out.
