Over the last few weeks, FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has seen several of his important players return from their respective injuries. Players like Frenkie de Jong, Gavi, and Ronald Araujo have all returned to availability after overcoming their long-term injuries, even though the Uruguayan is yet to get back on the pitch.
Meanwhile, there is another player who is getting very near to fully recovering from his physical issues, and can return in the coming weeks, or even days, i.e., Andreas Christensen.
SPORT has provided an update on his status and reports that the 28-year-old Dane was able to complete two training sessions with the rest of his teammates in a normal manner on Wednesday and Thursday.
The defender had already trained with the group twice in the last week, and he returned to train once again after the team enjoyed two days off on Monday and Tuesday. After Thursday’s session, there is still one training session left ahead of the match against Atletico Madrid, following which players will depart for their Christmas holidays.
But the Dane can get the medical clearance before these holidays and can appear in the squad for this upcoming match against Atletico. However, he is highly unlikely to step on the pitch yet and will do so only next year.
Christensen has been limited to the sidelines since playing for 26 minutes in the opening game of this season against Valencia. He was diagnosed with tendinopathy of the left Achilles and has been recovering from this issue for the last four months.
He also recently underwent a minor surgery to recover from this issue, which was meant to eliminate the discomfort that he has been feeling for several months now.
The player himself was confident that he is recovering well in a recent interview, and hopefully, he can return to availability in the coming days to provide Hansi Flick with another trusted option in the center of his Barcelona backline.
