ONE – SATURDAY 28 DECEMBER 1901 – Only 3,000 are there on a miserable day at Parkhead to see Celtic maintain their slim chances of winning the League Championship as they beat Kilmarnock 4-2. It is a good day for Willie McOustra as he scores a hat-trick. Johnny Hodge scores the other goal. 1901 has not been a great year for Celtic and 1902 will be only marginally better.

TWO – SATURDAY 28 DECEMBER 1957 – Celtic’s poor run continues with a 0-2 defeat by Hearts at Parkhead today. It is hard to believe that this was the team that won the League Cup in that epic 7-1 game only a couple of months ago, but there have been many changes in personnel since then mainly due to injury. On the other hand this is the Hearts team which will win the Scottish League for the first time since 1897, and they do look good. Jimmy Wardhaugh and Alec Young score the goals for them.

THREE – SATURDAY 28 DECEMBER 1968 – For the third week in succession Celtic draw. Today’s game was a 0-0 draw against Airdrie at Broomfield on a hard pitch, and it has now led to people asking whether Celtic are on the brink of collapse. This is over pessimistic, but it does mean that Celtic, although still at the top, are in a more vulnerable position.

FOUR – SATURDAY 28 DECEMBER 1974 – At Rugby Park, Kilmarnock, Celtic beat the home side, now managed by Willie Fernie, 1-0 with a goal scored by Kenny Dalglish to keep Celtic at the top of the League and looking at the moment, good for winning ten titles in a row.

FIVE – WEDNESDAY 28 DECEMBER 2011 – Celtic go to the top of the SPL with a hard-worked but deserved 1-0 win over Rangers at Celtic Park. Joe Ledley heads the goal from a Charlie Mulgrew free-kick. Less than two months previously, Celtic were fifteen points behind.
