After a very well-deserved period of vacations following the highly successful 2024-25 season, the FC Barcelona players are now set to begin their preparations for the next season in which they will once again be competing for all the big titles.

Yesterday, the players returned to the Catalan club to undergo physical and medical tests before starting their preseason training under Hansi Flick.

Oriol Romeu returns to Barcelona

Among the players was also the 33-year-old midfielder Oriol Romeu, who spent the last season on loan at the La Liga side Girona and reunited with his Barcelona teammates only yesterday.

Last season, the Spaniard was unable to play under Flick as he left the last year’s preseason tour of the USA midway to return to Catalonia and join Girona. Thus, he returned to play for the other Catalan side on loan after a year at the Blaugrana club, where he did not enjoy a lot of prominence under Xavi Hernandez and was also unable to impress Flick a lot.

The German tactician preferred the youngsters Marc Bernal and Marc Casado over him, and with the way the last season went, this decision was proven to be the correct one.

Now, a year later, things have not changed much, and the midfielder is still not a part of Hansi Flick’s plans for the next season. Barcelona are currently looking for a way out for Romeu.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the player also knows of the club’s desires and has already accepted that he will not play any prominent role under Flick. However, there is still one year left on his contract, and his departure is stalled.

In such a context, Barcelona can opt to terminate his contract, and this could be a viable option for the Catalans if Oriol Romeu is able to find a new team for himself. For now, the midfielder is facing a highly uncertain future, and it remains to be seen where he will be playing next season.
