The last time that the Los Angeles Galaxy won back-to-back games was in 2024 when they won both the MLS Western Conference Finals and the MLS Cup Finals. Since then, the defending champions went 16 straight games without a win before they tasted victory once again.

Two weeks ago, the LA Galaxy won 2-0 against Real Salt Lake. It also marked the first win at home in 2025 as the team went unbeaten in all 16 regular-season games played at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

Hopefully head coach Greg Vanney has his troops ready as they have not played in 14 days entering Saturday's contest at St. Louis, Missouri. The LA Galaxy dropped the previous match against St. Louis City SC by a score of 2-0.

So, why should the LA Galaxy be the favorites to win in this one?

1. St. Louis City SC has a new coach since the last time they played.

The Los Angeles Galaxy faced St. Louis City SC back in March. After their first 15 games, St. Louis fired their head coach, Olof Mellberg. Even when the LA Galaxy went winless, General Manager Will Kuntz extended Greg Vanney through the 2028 MLS season.

St. Louis City SC named David Critchley their new head coach a month ago. He joins the team from their MLS Next Pro affiliate, St. Louis City II.

2. Believe it or not, the LA Galaxy have the better offense.

That's right! St. Louis City SC has scored only 14 goals entering Saturday. The LA Galaxy have scored 15 times.

For St. Louis, they have just four players with multiple scores. The team leader is Cedric Teuchert with three. Marcel Hartel, João Klauss, and Eduard Löwen each have two goals on the season.

Furthermore, not one player on St. Louis has more than one assist. The LA Galaxy's Player of the Month for May, Marco Reus, has four assists and three goals. Leading scorer Christian Ramirez has been coming off the bench more instead of starting.

3. St. Louis City SC has struggled just as much as the LA Galaxy as of late.

Since their US Open Cup victory over Union Omaha, 2-0, St. Louis City has won once in their last seven games. The LA Galaxy have gone 1-1-3 in their last five games.

4. The LA Galaxy are due to beat St. Louis City SC.

Since 2023, St. Louis City has lost to the Los Angeles Galaxy just once in their seven meetings. This game will mark the eight time overall but just their sixth regular season match against one another.

The last time out, the LA Galaxy were shutout 3-0 at home against St. Louis City. However, the six-time champions have won 4-1 against them in August 2023 at the World Cup Friendlies.

While the winner of Saturday's game likely won't make the playoffs, the LA Galaxy need this game more. They should be able to pull off their second victory in a row after the two-week rest period.
