The international break always give us time to look at stories in the bigger picture, and we get interesting quotes from players going back to their home countries.

That’s been the case with Marc Guiu, who is having a funny old career at Chelsea after arriving in the summer of 2024 from Barcelona.

Speaking to the Spanish media, Guiu talked about the situation which led to him leaving the Nou Camp:

“Maybe I could have played a little more. Barça had other projects. There was Lewandowski and they signed Vitor Roque and I didn’t have much room there, but I would have liked [Hansi] Flick to have called me.”

Even though Chelsea haven’t got the best out of Guiu, at least they paid just €5m for him. Meanwhile Barcelona’s move for Vitor Roque proved to be a total disaster.

Chelsea will feel they dodged a bullet there – the Blues had been strongly linked with the Brazilian themselves, and could easily have been the ones who made the mistake of signing him.

Thankfully we used the opportunity to snap up Guiu instead. Now it’s just a question of making the most of that opportunity. Right now even €5m isn’t looking too cheap, he needs games and goals as soon as possible.

In other news…

With the international break in full swing there’s other reading to be done, including the Athletic looked at Chelsea’s player trading model and whether it remains a long term viable way of making money and winning trophies at the same time.

And Blues fans were disturbed by what they saw coming out of Cobham this week, where Levi Colwill returned to work in the gym following his ACL surgery.
