Liverpool need a saviour and in a £65m star they might have exactly that.

Arne Slot will be the first to admit that nothing has worked out for him this season so far. This has not been the campaign he nor anyone at the club will have anticipated, especially not the fans.

All the glamorous new signings made it seem like Liverpool were going to go on a rampant run and defender their Premier League title.

Instead what has transpired is the worst run in the club's history since the 1950s, back when Liverpool were teetering between the first and second division of English football.

That's how bad things have gotten. There's no denying performances have been better since. Slot seems to have found somewhat of a fix with his use a diamond shape that has got Hugo Ekitike firing and Florian Wirtz pulling the strings.

Defensively, the Reds have looked a lot less vulnerable. But still Liverpool are struggling to create chances and be a goal-threat. At the same time their pressing game is also very poor.

These are elements Liverpool have to fix. Right now, Slot is struggling because he doesn't quite have the right balance in the team in order to make it work.

Selling Luis Diaz, who the head-coach was very reluctant to lose, has created a massive void on that left-wing. Obviously, there's a lack of depth in centre-back department as well.

Those are two areas Liverpool are going to have to solve. The January window gives them an option to embark on possible targets right now it seems like they are very keen on going down that route.

For the centre-back position Jeremy Jacquet is well-liked, meanwhile for the winger role Antoine Semenyo is a player Liverpool have admired for a long time.

Richard Hughes was the man who brought him to Bournemouth from Bristol City and with his £65m clause becoming active in the winter window, it's too enticing of a prospect for Liverpool to not pursue.

The best thing about Semenyo is that he is exactly what Liverpool need right now. He's a pressing monster, who doesn't just run for the sake of it but runs with careful and measured steps.

Last season, he blocked the most passes (58) out of anyone in the Premier League, this season he has blocked the second most passes (24).

He's also made the third most recoveries among forward players (70).

Obviously, on top of that Semenyo is an excellent ball carrier who thrives in those one vs one situations. He is excellent with both feet and can be a threat going forward.

But those defensive numbers and his work-rate make him exactly the type of player Liverpool need right now. They've got the firepower upfront but they need more workhorses like Dominik Szoboszlai.

That is why if Liverpool activate his £65m release clause, Semenyo is going to save the club's entire season, and there's a good chance the Reds are going to do it. So keep an eye on this.
