AC Milan closed out the 2025/26 Serie A campaign on 70 points, finishing in fifth place and missing out on Champions League qualification after a 1-2 defeat at home against Cagliari. It's a points total that the Rossoneri have already matched or bettered several times in the three-points-per-win era. However, this is the first time in Serie A history in which the Rossoneri have finished outside the top four with that tally. There have been many previous examples when AC Milan have finished a league season on exactly 70 points in the three-points-per-win era, introduced in 1994/95. A recent example came in 2022/23 under Stefano Pioli, when the Rossoneri ended the campaign on 70 points in fourth place.

In that season, Juventus had points deducted, which affected the final standings. In the 2009/10 season, with Leonardo on the touchline, AC Milan finished their Serie A campaign on 70 points, securing third place. In the 1998/99 season, they closed out their campaign on 70 points, winning the Scudetto under Alberto Zaccheroni, although it was an 18-team league with 34 matchdays instead of 38 and therefore with fewer points available. Taking a look now at the modern 20-team era with 38 matchdays, AC Milan have recorded similar points totals on several occasions in recent years. In 2018/19, they finished on 68 points (fifth under Gennaro Gattuso). In 2020/21, they secured 79 points and finished second under Stefano Pioli, and in 2023/24, they closed out their campaign with 75 points in second place.
