Manchester United registered a 2-1 victory over Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday.

The Red Devils returned to winning ways with a solid performance. There were several stand-out performers, but we were particularly impressed with one player.

Lisandro Martinez had a brilliant outing in the heart of the defence. The Argentine completed 94 percent of his passes and won 100 percent of his ground and aerial duels.

The centre-back also managed four successful long balls and completed his only cross in stoppage time. He delivered a sublime delivery for Bruno Fernandes’s late winner.

Martinez had a mixed start to the campaign where his place in the starting XI was questioned.

However, the World Cup winner has stepped up with his performances over the past few weeks, and he looks to be finding form at the busy end of the season for United.

Bruno Fernandes was the man of the match against Rangers after his late volley to win the game, but Martinez was equally good on the night and was an unsung hero.

The £42 million-rated star recently dropped to the bench against Brighton & Hove Albion. The rest has probably done him good. Hopefully, he can sustain the good form.

United take on Fulham in the Premier League in Sunday’s late kick-off at Craven Cottage. Martinez could have different central defensive partners after Ruben Amorim’s update.

Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro picked up leg injuries against Rangers and they are doubtful to feature. Harry Maguire and Noussair Mazraoui could start in the back three.

Victor Lindelof recently returned to team training after a hamstring injury. The Sweden international could be another option for Amorim for the west London trip this weekend.
