Barcelona haven’t had the best of weeks so far, having recently confirmed the injuries of four first-team stars, including Joan Garcia and Raphinha, on the same day.

The two key first-team stars join Gavi, Fermin Lopez and Marc-Andre ter Stegen in the infirmary. These injuries have put the spotlight on how Hansi Flick has tried to balance out the team this season by making more frequent rotations.

A closer look at Flick’s rotation policy this season

As reported by AS, Flick has completely turned the tables at Barcelona this season by rejigging his rotation policy and making sure that everyone gets a chance to play.

As a matter of fact, Flick has changed his squad in each of the seven official matches Barcelona played in all competitions this season, including the one game in the UEFA Champions League.

The German tactician began the campaign against Mallorca, but changes soon followed, even after a 3-0 victory.

Marc Casado and Marcus Rashford came in for the Levante game. Against Rayo Vallecano, three new faces – Andreas Christensen, Jules Kounde and Dani Olmo – were introduced.

Six switches were made for the Valencia clash, while the Champions League opener versus Newcastle saw Ronald Araujo, Frenkie de Jong, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski return.

Getafe witnessed four changes, and the latest match against Real Oviedo featured five.

Flick’s newfound rotation philosophy extends to substitutions as well. He used all five allowed changes against Mallorca, Levante, Valencia and Getafe, four against both Newcastle and Rayo.

The Barcelona coach made three decisive moves in the Oviedo comeback, bringing on de Jong, Lewandowski and Kounde.

These changes reflect how Flick has tried to equate the squad more this season, which becomes important at a time when injuries have continued to pile up.
