FC Bayern has recently been heavily linked with Givairo Read. Now, Feyenoord Rotterdam has rejected a multi-million offer from the Premier League. Does this open up a new opportunity for the Munich club?

With Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari, FC Bayern has already sealed its two major summer signings. Nevertheless, the Munich club continues to monitor the market closely—including the right-back position. Givairo Read was most recently considered one of the most interesting candidates for that role.

Now there are new developments in the transfer saga surrounding the Dutch player.

Nottingham Rejected by Feyenoord

As reported by Voetbal International, Feyenoord Rotterdam has rejected an offer from Nottingham Forest worth the equivalent of around 17.5 million euros for Read. The Dutch club apparently values the 20-year-old significantly higher and is not currently considering a sale at that price.

This could certainly be of interest to FC Bayern. Read has been repeatedly linked with a move to Munich in recent months and had himself stated in May that a summer transfer was definitely possible: “It’s no longer a secret that clubs are keeping an eye on me and that a move could be on the horizon this summer. I don’t want to keep that a secret either.”

Since then, however, things have quieted down regarding his situation. One reason for this is likely the signing of Nathaniel Brown. Although the German national team player is primarily a left-back, he can also play right-back, giving Vincent Kompany additional flexibility.

In addition, Bayern is reportedly close to extending Konrad Laimer’s contract, and he, too, can play right back.

Read is attracting interest from many clubs

Whether Read is even still a concrete option for Bayern remains to be seen. One thing is clear, however: The Dutchman remains one of the most exciting fullbacks in Europe. In 54 competitive matches for Feyenoord, he has already racked up 16 points and has also impressed in both the Champions League and the Europa League.

In addition to FC Bayern, Manchester City and, most recently, Nottingham Forest are also said to have shown interest. However, thanks to his long-term contract running through 2029, Feyenoord is in a comfortable negotiating position. Following the rejection of the Premier League offer, a potential transfer is likely to become significantly more expensive.

From Bayern’s perspective, however, there are currently strong indications that their priorities lie elsewhere for the time being. Following the costly signings of Brown and Saibari, the record champions are unlikely to make further major investments until they have first generated corresponding transfer proceeds.
