After three months of lessons, the first session of the training course launched by Inter together with the Kayros Community as part of the new Italian edition of the Twinning Project comes to a close today. This is an internationally recognised rehabilitation programme that pairs professional football clubs with local correctional institutions. The project is promoted in several Italian cities by Twinning Project ETS and supported by Enel Cuore, the philanthropic organisation of the Enel Group, and includes a total of three training cycles for each city and affiliated club. Since 30 January, weekly sessions have been held by coaches from Inter’s youth sector, delivering a basic coaching education programme that also includes a broader pathway focused on developing soft skills such as communication, leadership and conflict resolution. The participants in this session were 14 young people from the Kayros Community.
The ultimate goal of the Twinning Project is to tackle the high rates of reoffending that characterise the Italian prison system, using football as a catalyst to engage participants: the values of sport and the development of new professional skills can support young people in their reintegration into society. Inter has also provided the opportunity for some participants to work alongside coaches involved in the Club’s socially focused teams.
On the final day of the training period, the Kayros participants received their certificate in Leadership in Sport from Nerazzurri legend Fabio Galante, who also took part in their first training session after graduation. Also present were the founder and president of Kayros, Don Claudio Burgio, and the president of Twinning Project ETS, Sasha Fugazzola.
Thanks to the support of Enel Cuore, after the summer the second class of the Milan edition of the Twinning Project will begin, with a new cycle of lessons led by Inter’s coaches, this time in collaboration with San Vittore Prison and the Associazione Amici della Nave OdV. This organisation, whose volunteers have long supported activities within the La Nave unit at San Vittore, will work alongside Inter and Twinning on a programme dedicated to individuals still in detention.
Founded in the United Kingdom in 2018 and expanded internationally from 2023 with the support of FIFA, the Twinning Project arrived in Italy last year with a pilot programme launched in Rome. From this season it is growing across the country with the support of Enel Cuore, which for over 20 years has worked alongside third sector organisations on projects with significant social impact. Inter has also joined the initiative, reaffirming its commitment to social inclusion, particularly within its home city of Milano.
