Argentine defender made big impression in six-month Bundesliga stint

Aaron Anselmino has bid a teary farewell to his Borussia Dortmund team-mates after his loan was cut short by Chelsea.

He made ten appearances in his time at the Westfalenstadion, picking up one goal and one assist before being recalled to west London on Monday.

In a video shared to Dortmund’s social media channels, the centre-back can be seen in floods of tears as he bids farewell to the likes of Karim Adeyemi, Fabio Silva, and others.

The rest of the squad applauded him as he made the rounds.

Writing on Instagram afterwards, Anselmino sent a message to the club’s supporters: “It was an incredible 6 months, thank you so much for the love you gave me from day one, I wish you all the best!! Heja BVB.”

Silva, with whom Anselmino seems to have been close, responded: “Thanks for all the shared moments dear brother!! I wish you good luck, I'm going to miss you a lot, but I'll stay with all the experiences and your friendship. Thanks for everything!! I love you so much.”

It remains to be seen how he will factor into Liam Rosenior’s plans at Chelsea, with Saturday’s match against West Ham seeming the most likely opportunity for him to debut.

Dortmund confirmed Chelsea’s decision to recall Anselmino with a curt statement on Monday morning, sharing that Chelsea had activated a break clause in his loan deal.

According to a report from German outlet Bild, Dortmund executives have been left incensed by the Blues’ decision, which leaves them shorthanded at the back and could force them to dip into the market this month, with the transfer deadline now just one week away.
