Abdel Abqar has been handed a two-match ban for pinching Alexander Sorloth’s genitals during Atlético de Madrid’s 1-0 win over Getafe on Saturday, according to L'Équipe.

The Getafe defender was sent off in the 55th minute after a VAR review on matchday 28 of La Liga.

Afterwards, the Morocco international said he had not intended to touch that area and that he had aimed for Sorloth’s stomach.

Getafe called the dismissal unjust, and Pepe Bordalas said he had never seen a player sent off for such an action and did not think Abqar had grabbed the forward’s testicles. The club’s protest was unsuccessful.

The league ruled it unsporting conduct. He will miss Espanyol on 21 March and Athletic Club on 5 April. Abqar, 27, has three caps for Morocco.
