According to Globo.com, Abel Ferreira and Palmeiras have been denounced to the Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva for misconduct in last Saturday’s clássico, which Palmeiras won 1-0.

Both clubs face potential charges under article 206 of the Código Brasileiro de Justiça Desportiva for delaying the start or restart. São Paulo, the home side, delayed kick-off by five minutes after a fireworks display before referee Anderson Daronco’s opening whistle. Palmeiras took three minutes to return for the second half, with sanctions ranging from R$ 100 to R$ 1,000 per minute.

Abel Ferreira’s case is considered more serious. He is cited under article 258, which covers conduct contrary to sporting discipline not otherwise specified. He was sent off for a second yellow 33 minutes into the second half.

Daronco later said he had been called “cagão” by Abel Ferreira. If sanctioned, the coach faces a ban of one to six matches. The complaint treats him as a repeat offender and notes three dismissals this season.

The STJD prosecutor’s office filing states that since 2020 he has received 30 yellow cards and five reds. It also says no Palmeiras player or any other coach in the country has been cautioned more often in that period.

The case is expected to be heard by 19 April. Abel Ferreira will serve an automatic suspension against Grêmio on Thursday 2 at 21:30 Brasília time at Arena Crefisa Barueri.
