Manchester City’s newest recruit Marc Guehi has reflected on the club’s success under Pep Guardiola upon joining the club and ahead of his debut at the Etihad Stadium.

Guehi is set to make his Manchester City debut against Wolves on Saturday afternoon, having penned a five-and-a-half year deal at the Etihad Stadium after joining for £20 million from Crystal Palace on Monday.

The 25-year-old represents a stellar addition to Manchester City’s depleted backline, with Ruben Dias sidelined for a few more weeks and Josko Gvardiol out until April at the very least after the pair went off with injury in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea on January 4.

City have won just twice in their last seven games in all competitions, having lost twice on the bounce against Manchester United and Bodo/Glimt in the last week as they search for their opening Premier League win of 2026 against Wolves this weekend.

Speaking in his opening media commitments with Manchester City, Guehi was quizzed for his thoughts on the Premier League giants’ remarkable run of success under Pep Guardiola.

“Absolute domination and it’s been great to see where the club’s come from,” said the England international. “The growth, continued growth which the club wants and strives for is amazing. I’m someone who just wants to come in, help, do his part, see how far the club can continue to grow.”

One element of the Etihad Stadium operation that will also delight Guehi is the opportunity for UEFA Champions League football. “It’s something we’ve all watched growing up,” the defender added on playing in Europe’s elite club competition.

“I wouldn’t necessarily say I had a dream because I didn’t even know. For me, at that age, it seemed too far. But it’d be an amazing achievement, amazing honour to step out in front of City fans in the Champions League.”

Guehi is expected to play a crucial role in defence for Guardiola between now and the end of the season, with Manchester City still in the running for silverware on four fronts.

The Blues have made a sluggish start to 2026 but Guardiola hit back at suggestions that his side have lost their mojo when he faced the press to preview Saturday’s visit from Wolves.

City have been far from their best this year but Guardiola has drawn huge praise for defending his players in the media, especially at a time when head coaches have sought exit routes by throwing their players under the bus.

Nothing less than three points will do for Manchester City against Wolves and Guehi will be hoping to start his career at the Etihad Stadium with a clean sheet, with the Ivory Coast-born star expected to start in central defence.
