AC Milan have reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain to sign Portugal international Goncalo Ramos in what will become the most expensive transfer in the club’s history.

The Rossoneri have moved decisively to secure one of Europe’s most highly regarded strikers, underlining their ambitions ahead of the new season under recently appointed head coach Ruben Amorim.

The deal also represents the biggest transfer completed in Serie A since Inter signed Romelu Lukaku from Manchester United for €74 million in 2019.

It comfortably surpasses Milan’s previous transfer record, which was set when Rafael Leao arrived from Lille in 2019.

Milan faced competition from several leading European clubs but ultimately won the race for Ramos.

A strong working relationship between Milan owner Gerry Cardinale and Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is understood to have played a significant role in helping negotiations progress.

Amorim’s arrival also proved influential.

The Portuguese coach knows Ramos well and identified his fellow countryman as his preferred option to lead Milan’s attack.

Ramos was reportedly keen on the opportunity to reunite with Amorim, helping accelerate talks between the two clubs.

The 25-year-old has already undergone a medical while away on international duty at the World Cup in the United States.

Portugal are preparing for their final group-stage fixture against Colombia, with Ramos remaining part of Roberto Martinez’s squad despite finalising his club future.

He has so far made one appearance at the tournament after coming off the bench during Portugal’s opening draw against DR Congo.

Ramos leaves Paris Saint-Germain after an eventful spell in the French capital.

Despite facing stiff competition for places, he established himself as an important squad member and contributed crucial goals across domestic and European competitions.

His move to Milan offers the chance to become the focal point of the attack at one of Europe’s most historic clubs.

The transfer also marks another major development in a busy summer at San Siro.

Earlier on Friday, Milan confirmed the appointment of Massimo Calvelli as the club’s new chief executive as part of a wider restructuring behind the scenes.

The arrival of Ramos is expected to be the first marquee signing of Amorim’s reign.

Milan believe the Portugal international possesses the qualities to lead the line for years to come as they look to challenge for the Serie A title and compete strongly in the UEFA Champions League.

With one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards now on his way, the seven-time European champions have sent a clear statement of intent ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
