AC Milan boss Ruben Amorim provides intriguing update on wantaway star Rafael Leao | OneFootball

Ruben Amorim has shed some light on AC Milan’s wantaway star Rafael Leao this week, insisting that the Portuguese will continue to be involved.

Speaking from the Rossoneri’s pre-season camp in Australia, the Milan manager’s comments hinted at a potential reconciliation between Leao and his employers.

Earlier this Summer, Leao looked certain to be heading for the San Siro exit door. However, after poor showings in the 2025-26 campaign, European interest has been at a minimum for the 27-year-old Lisbon native.

Leao reportedly had his eye on either a switch to the Premier League or La Liga, but interest only arrived from Turkish giants Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and Besiktas.

What Amorim has said

Much like his time with Manchester United, Ruben Amorim sits in the hot seat at yet another European goliath. However, his calm approach has likely brought relief to the red and black half of Milan.

Speaking ahead of Milan’s friendly against Inter in Perth, the manager emphasised collective positivity, with a constructive nod to Leao.

“All the players are working really well: both those who started from day one and those who joined later. Rafa is lucky to be at a club like Milan, so he should be happy. I feel he’s happy and motivated.”

While Amorim wants the best for his compatriot, the manager also mentioned the unpredictability of the transfer period.

“I don’t know what will happen between now and the end of the transfer window, but I feel the group is really united.” He continued, “The important thing is to continue with this spirit when things get tough. At this club, you have to win every match, and for that, we have to maintain the right spirit throughout the season. So I haven’t felt or seen any difference in Leao compared to the other players. I feel everyone is preparing to start a very difficult season.”
