AC Milan are reportedly ready to beat Inter Milan to the signature of Giovanni Leoni after selling Malick Thiaw to Newcastle United.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, also note that the Rossoneri are tracking Inter target Koni De Winter for their backline.

AC Milan are reportedly on the verge of selling defender Malick Thiaw to Newcastle United.

The Rossoneri will receive a fee of around €40 million for the German international.

And this could have major knock-on effects elsewhere in the transfer market.

Clearly, if Milan complete the deal to sell Thiaw, they will move for a replacement.

One name that has been linked with Milan for some time is defender Giovanni Leoni. The 19-year-old is highly, with both Inter and Liverpool also keen.

The Corriere dello Sport note that Milan are now in prime position to move quickly for Leoni.

In the meantime, Inter are still trying to offload some of their own players. They are hoping to cobble together the cash to make an offer for Leoni.

But it is Milan who will be able to move, should they choose to.

However, Leoni is not the Rossoneri’s only target in defense, the Corriere dello Sport note.

Milan are also keen on Fiorentina defender Pietro Comuzzo.

Then, the Corriere report, Milan could also rival Inter for the signature of Genoa’s Koni De Winter.
