AC Milan are closing on an agreement to sign Lazio centre-back Mario Gila this summer, with the Spaniard said to have given his word to the Rossoneri, Calciomercato reports.
Talks with Lazio are expected to accelerate after an agreement in principle.
Gila, 25, is under contract until June 2027, yet Lazio president Claudio Lotito and director Angelo Fabiani are understood to have long abandoned renewal efforts. A sale in the summer is widely anticipated to avoid a free departure a year later.
Despite being regarded among Serie A’s standout defenders, he remains one of the club’s lowest earners on a net €1.1 million per year. Some even rate him the best in the league.
The move is also linked to Igli Tare’s wish to reunite with the player, having brought Gila to Rome in 2022. Milan have been the most persistent suitors after months of interest from across Europe.
With one year left on his deal this summer, the fee is thought to be around €25 million. Real Madrid would be due 50% of the sum via a sell-on clause.
