Joe Gelhardt’s uncertain Leeds United future is back under the spotlight after Hull City owner Acun Ilicali posted a cryptic midnight transfer update on X.

According to Leedsunited.news, the 24-year-old was left out of the club’s United States tour and has not joined the main pre-season group at Thorp Arch.

He played a key role on loan at the MKM Stadium last season as Hull returned to the Premier League, yet a permanent deal has not followed.

At midnight on five August, Ilicali shared an updated checklist of targets using flags and progress percentages. Entry number 18 sat at 30 per cent beside an England flag.

Supporters quickly connected the English flag to Gelhardt and suggested talks were under way, with many urging the Tigers to complete a permanent move.

Ilicali has recently praised Gelhardt, but stressed any approach would hinge entirely on head coach Sergej Jakirovic.

Birmingham City have also been linked, though Hull are viewed as the forward’s preferred option if Jakirovic gives the go-ahead. Leeds are open to a sale at about £three million as they continue to move on fringe players, with Jack Harrison, Max Wober and Isaac Schmidt among the departures.
