The start of a new season always comes wrapped in a kind of optimism – the sense that anything, for now at least, remains possible. For Liverpool, that fresh hope arrives not only in the shape of a new campaign but in the return of a familiar brand: Adidas. After a 13-year hiatus, the German giant has rejoined the club’s ranks, unveiling kits that have already stirred a sense of nostalgia and excitement among the Anfield faithful.
Fans got their first glimpse of the new Liverpool home kit at Anfield earlier this week, with many already sporting the fresh design in the stands. But it’s the creamy away strip that will take centre stage at Wembley this Sunday, as Liverpool face Crystal Palace in the FA Community Shield.
In a post on their official X account, Liverpool confirmed they’ll don the away kit for this weekend’s clash, with Mohamed Salah featured in the release imagery looking particularly sharp in the new colours. As the Reds are considered the ‘away’ team for the day, the decision makes both practical and promotional sense.
The Community Shield may not be recognised as an official trophy in the record books, but it remains a stage for statements. Liverpool know that. They’ve won the Shield 16 times – most recently in 2022, when they outclassed Manchester City to open the season with intent. That title challenge may have eventually fizzled, but the point had been made. Now, with Palace providing the opposition, the Reds will again look to lay down an early marker.
While the occasion brings a chance to showcase Adidas’ latest creation, it also opens the door for Liverpool’s newest faces to make their competitive bows. Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong are all in contention for minutes, with goals and appearances counting toward official tallies, even if the trophy itself remains unofficial.
For those not descending on Wembley, TNT Sports will provide live coverage of the 3pm kick-off. Should the match end in a draw after 90 minutes, the winner will be decided via a penalty shootout – no extra time, no second chances.
