Adson’s first start of the season turned into a redemption night at São Januário as Vasco beat Olimpia 3-0. He set up Puma Rodríguez and Nuno Moreira, then scored the third.
He wept after scoring, the release of two gruelling seasons blighted by right tibia fractures. Sidelined from August 2024 to March 2025, he suffered another break in July last year in training, had surgery, and only returned this year.
"I have no words to describe the emotion of scoring an important goal in this shirt. I am very grateful to Vasco for the support in the most difficult moment of my career and to the staff for the trust and opportunity," he told ge.
Adson’s timing suits Renato Gaúcho, who has struggled to fix the right wing. Across nine Brasileirão matches he has used four different starters up front, and no one has locked down the spot alongside Andrés Gómez and David.
Among the options for that flank, only Adson had not started under Renato, though he impressed off the bench. In the league he came on against Palmeiras, Fluminense, São Paulo and Corinthians.
The win eased pressure in the Copa Sudamericana, even though the staff have said it is not a priority. Vasco moved above Olimpia to lead Group G on four points, their first group-stage victory.
Selections for Sunday’s Flamengo trip in the 14th round at the Maracanã will depend on medical checks and training, with assistant Alexandre Mendes highlighting Adson’s progress and pace out wide.
