No celebrations on the Champs-Élysées

Paris police banned supporter gatherings on the Champs-Élysées for the AFCON final between Morocco & Senegal citing security concerns.
On Saturday 17 January, the Paris Police Prefecture issued order prohibiting fan gatherings in and around the Champs Élysées ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 final.
The decision covers wide area stretching from the Louvre to Porte Maillot. Authorities made clear that anyone gathering as supporter of either team or behaving as such, would not be allowed to assemble in the zone.
The order also includes ban on fireworks and pyrotechnic devices. Police described the area as one of Paris’ most visited tourist zones warning that large crowds could pose serious risk before and after the final whistle.
According to the prefecture, similar matches in previous AFCON editions led to public disorder, damage to street furniture and police interventions.
The restrictions will come into force on Sunday at 18:00 and remain active until Monday at 02:00.
The decision comes in sensitive context, with Paris home to large Moroccan & Senegalese communities. In past tournaments, celebrations linked to AFCON matches have often drawn thousands of fans to the French capital’s most famous avenue.
