Eleven Bundesliga players remain at the 2025 AFCON as the quarter-finals arrive, spanning six of the eight nations. Only Egypt and Nigeria lack current German football representatives. According to Get German Football News, Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Morocco, Senegal and Mali still feature them.
Algeria, the 2019 champions, advanced by beating Congo DR 1-0 after extra time in the last 16. They now face Nigeria on Saturday, a team that swept their group then eliminated Mozambique 4-0. Former Bundesliga players Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen have three goals each.
Leverkusen’s Ibrahim Maza has been Algeria’s standout. He scored twice in the groups and took player of the match in the other game. In the last 16 he started with Mohamed Amoura in a 4-4-2, logging two shots on target and the best first-half opening.
Eintracht Frankfurt’s Fares Chaïbi has featured in all four matches, starting three. He combined with Maza for the 2-0 against Equatorial Guinea and, from a deeper role versus Congo DR, drew a save in the 111th minute before Adil Boulbina’s 119th-minute winner.
Borussia Dortmund’s Ramy Bensebaini started three times and impressed, with Algeria conceding only in the game he missed. Against Congo DR he contested 28 duels, recorded 99 touches and completed 84 percent of 77 passes.
Wolfsburg’s Mohammed Amoura has one assist for Riyad Mahrez and seven efforts on target without scoring, but his lively display alongside Maza in the last 16 stood out.
