After uniting its community around the African Player of the Year award, Foot Africa is keeping the momentum alive by launching another major poll: the election of the best African team of 2025.

This is a symbolic but telling honor for an exceptional year across the continent, marked by top-level collective performances, historic qualifications, and unforgettable continental campaigns. Several national sides stood out with their consistency, ambition, and ability to deliver when it mattered most. Five of them have clearly pulled ahead. Now it’s your turn to decide.

Senegal: African champions and World Cup bound

Senegal marches forward with the authority of champions. Crowned at AFCON 2025, the Lions of Teranga secured their second star after a brilliantly managed tournament, capped by victory over hosts Morocco.

This triumph capped off a packed year, featuring 19 matches with an impressive record: 14 wins, 3 draws, and just 2 losses. Consistent, competitive, and mentally strong, the Senegalese finish the year 2nd in the CAF rankings and sit 12th in the FIFA world rankings.

Cape Verde: the surprise guests at the American showdown

Cape Verde is arguably the feel-good African football story of 2025. The Blue Sharks enjoyed a remarkable year, capped by a historic qualification for the 2026 World Cup—the first in their history.

Unbeaten throughout the year (10 matches, 6 wins, 4 draws), they topped their qualification group ahead of Cameroon, confirming steady progress and newfound maturity. Cape Verde closes the year ranked 13th in Africa and 67th in the FIFA rankings—both ranking improvements.

Morocco: heartbreak in the final, but an outstanding year

Morocco cemented its place as a continental powerhouse. Runners-up at AFCON 2025 and headed to the 2026 World Cup, the Atlas Lions impressed with remarkable consistency.

They even set a world record with 19 consecutive international wins. In official matches in 2025, the numbers are dazzling: 15 matches, 13 wins, and 2 draws, with the only disappointment being the final loss to Senegal. Morocco logically finishes 1st in the CAF rankings and 8th in the world, confirming their status among the global elite.

DR Congo: eyes on the 2026 World Cup

The Democratic Republic of Congo also experienced a pivotal year. Under Sébastien Desabre, the Leopards regained continental credibility with a more assertive playing style and restored solidity.

The 2025 record speaks for itself: 14 matches played, 11 wins, 2 draws, and just 1 defeat. Still in the running for a World Cup spot, DR Congo will play decisive playoffs on March 31, with hopes of extending this positive momentum. They currently sit 9th in Africa and 48th in the FIFA rankings.

Egypt: AFCON run and World Cup ticket secured

Finally, Egypt reaffirmed its status as a mainstay of African football. The Pharaohs wrapped up 2025 by qualifying for the 2026 World Cup and clinching fourth place at AFCON 2025 after a generally well-managed campaign.

Throughout the year, Egypt played 22 matches, recording 16 wins, 2 draws, and 4 losses—a testament to their consistency. They currently hold 5th in the CAF rankings and 31st in the world.

Five teams, five unique journeys, one shared goal: to leave their mark on 2025. Now it’s your turn to pick the best African team of the year.
