It may have taken five weeks, but Manchester United finally succeeded in their pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo on Friday.
It was confirmed at the end of the week that Brentford were happy that their demands had been met at the third time of trying, prompting them to – albeit reluctantly – sanction their talisman’s departure.
Mbeumo joins Matheus Cunha as United’s second arrival of the summer, whilst also being one of their handful of Premier League-proven targets to have made the move – and there may be another yet.

Indeed, Fabrizio Romano has verified the Red Devils’ links with Emiliano Martinez, 32, following several weeks of speculation. However, the rumours are more so being driven by the player himself, as he is said to be adamant about sealing a switch from Villa Park to Old Trafford in the coming weeks.
One report in Argentina even went as far as claiming United were prepared to activate a secret £21.1 million release clause included in the ‘world-class’ shot-stopper’s contract, although they would’ve allegedly preferred to pay slightly over his price tag in order to settle an agreement in instalments.
You’d imagine that in order to facilitate the potential acquisition of Martinez, Andre Onana, who they signed for £47m back in 2023, would have to be sold first.
Nonetheless, Romano shared his understanding of the situation this week, revealing (as cited by GiveMeSport): “First of all, we have to see what they (United) decide to do for the goalkeeper – if they want to bring in a new one, if they want to sign a young goalkeeper for the future or if they want to sign an experienced goalkeeper.
“There is Emi Martinez – he keeps on hoping for a call from Manchester United. He is open to the move to Manchester United. It depends on United and what they want to do for the goalkeeper. There will be internal conversations in the next days to decide.”
