‘Again we’ve lost two points’ – Amorim frustrated after Man United concede late equaliser to West Ham | OneFootball

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim says his side have “lost two points” after conceding a late equaliser to West Ham to draw 1-1.

In a cagey affair, United took the lead in the 58th minute through Diogo Dalot and looked on course to rise into the Premier League top five, but the Red Devils were pegged back by Soungoutou Magassa’s close range finish to earn West Ham a point.

United move above Liverpool into eighth place on 22 points, with West Ham remaining in the relegation zone in 18th, two points off 17th placed Leeds United.

Amorim was far from satisfied with his side’s up-and-down performance after they failed to capitalise on going ahead.

“It [the performance] was not constant,” Amorim said. “We had good moments and we lost control a little bit in the first half and a little bit in the second half after the goal. We should have closed the game when we scored the first one.

“The game was in control. We knew it. Let’s defend far from the box. We knew set pieces would be a problem with the difference in height in the team but we could do it. We could maintain the ball after the first goal and again we lost two points.”

West Ham’s direct approach made life difficult for United, something that frustrated Amorim, who was also unhappy with how his side used the ball after going in front.

“Losing second balls. And when they kick the ball long. Mateus [Fernandes] running with the ball. They win the first ball and then Bowen was making the runs. You can’t control that kind of game. We should be better with the ball after the first goal.

“We had a big opportunity with Cunha. We had the ball near the box but the crosses were not good. Sometimes the players’ characteristics inside the box are not good. They are not enough to score goals from that position.”
