Benjamin Sesko is closing in on his return from injury ‘sooner than expected’, according to his agent.

The forward has been out of action since before the November international break, when he sustained a knee complaint in the second half of Manchester United’s 2-2 away draw with Tottenham Hotspur.

Sesko had been brought into the game in the 58th minute, but lasted only half an hour before he was deemed unable to continue and forced off, leaving United with only 10 men for the closing stages due to Ruben Amorim using up all of his substitutions.

Consequently, the Slovenian has missed the last four matches against Everton, Crystal Palace, West Ham and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

His absence has paved the way for Joshua Zirkzee to feature more prominently, but you’d imagine Amorim will opt for Sesko, a natural No.9, to start when he’s back in the fold.

It’d come at just the right time, too, given United are approaching potentially the most hectic period in the season around Christmas and into the New Year.

They will also kick off their FA Cup campaign in early January and will be adamant about progressing to the latter stages of the competition – even more so since their dismal, second-round Carabao Cup exit.

What Sesko’s agent had to say

Thankfully for Amorim, he could have Sesko back at his disposal in the coming weeks if his agent’s comments are anything to go by.

“Benjamin is feeling very well. His rehabilitation is progressing according to plan. It’s hard to say precisely when he will return. I think we’ll see him back on the pitch very soon. Maybe even sooner than expected,” said Elvis Basanovic, as cited by Sam C for GiveMeSport.

He added: “Right now, while he [Sesko] was injured, he had a bit more free time, so I visited him in Manchester and asked him honestly: how do you see your decision about Manchester United now, when you’ve had a little more time to think about it?

“Sesko said: “‘Elvis, the only thing I would regret – and I would regret it for the rest of my life – would be if I hadn’t chosen Manchester United.’”
