That country is Hungary. Liverpool have already signed the country’s best ever player in the 21st century in Dominik Szoboszlai, who became the first Hungarian to lift the Premier League title.
Now they are about to sign Milos Kerkez, who is probably the second best Hungarian right now to play for the country, and could even surpass Szoboszlai as the best.
At 21-years-old, Kerkez is a generational prospect. And he isn’t the only Hungarian who is headed to Liverpool this summer.
Liverpool signed Armin Pecsi in a bit of a surprise move from Puskas Akademia last week.
Pecsi will arrive as the club’s third choice goalkeeper and he’s recognised as one of the best up and coming goalkeeping talents in European football, having been nominated for the Golden Boy award.
That means there’s the possibility that there will be three Hungarians in Liverpool’s first team next season.
But could there be a fourth? One of the biggest talents in Hungary right now is 19-year-old Alex Toth who is a technically gifted midfielder catching the eye alongside Szoboszlai in the national team.
Meanwhile, at club level he just established himself as a regular under Robbie Keane at Ferencvaros while playing alongside Naby Keita.
Toth made 10 goal contributions in his last 13 matches for Ferencvaros and that was enough to help his side secure the league title.
Now with the summer transfer window approaching everyone is talking about the next step in Toth’s career, and his agent Bence Papp was asked about that very topic in M4 Sport’s podcast.
The interviewer asked Papp whether Toth would accept a move to Liverpool.
“This summer he is staying. I want to take this discussion forward. If this summer Liverpool comes and they want to sign him, would he still stay?” the reporter asked.
“I don’t want to give an answer to this question that would impact the headlines for the next few days or influence perceptions of Alex in any way," Toth's agent, Papp replied.
“It’s important to see in Alex’s management and in the building of his career that right now what Ferencváros has built around him is unique. And it’s also [unique] what he does on the pitch.
“The fact that a 19-year-old footballer has international matches, hopefully group-stage games in a Europa League or, which is his dream, to play in the Champions League with Ferencvaros, could come true this summer, is unmatched.
“For Ferencvaros, he is a serious asset but the club will determine that. For me, he is a serious asset.
“I think that it’s important not to rush. We won’t name big names if they are interested. One thing is certain ever since I started working as an agent six years ago I have been working for this to build a network where with the right player I can knock on their door.
“But I will say this. This summer he will not move from Ferencvaros.”
So Toth won’t be on the move this summer. But he’s definitely one to keep an eye on.
Interestingly, Liverpool’s Global Talent Scouting Manager, Kyle Wallbanks, briefly worked at Ferencvaros over a decade ago.
