Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has not had the start to the season he might have imagined, starting a third of their games on the bench, and coming off in the others. The Brazilian’s future is a major question mark swirling above the Santiago Bernabeu.
Vinicius and Los Blancos had reportedly reached an agreement on a new deal in the early spring of this year, bearing in mind that his current contract expires in 2027. This followed on from interest last summer from Saudi Arabia. Yet back in June, it was reported that Vinicius’ camp had demanded improved terms that would put him above or level with Kylian Mbappe in terms of the squad’s best-paid player.
On Monday morning, Vinicius arrived at Real Madrid’s Valdebebas training ground with manager Tata Soares and agent Francisco Pena in the back of his car, as reported by El Chiringuito. They note that the latter pair went to the club offices at Valdebebas, and then spent two hours there before leaving.
According to Diario AS, the two parties are around 15% apart on a deal in terms of the money. However Real Madrid seem unwilling to compromise on their terms, even if both sides are keen to keep Vinicius at Real Madrid. As such, they have remained at a stalemate, with information in the summer being that talks had been put on hold until after this season, when he would have just a year left on his deal. They say Pena’s presence came a month ahead of when he was expected in the Spanish capital.

It is added by Marca that the meeting was with Real Madrid General Manager Jose Angel Sanchez, their usual negotiator. They explain that Real Madrid’s offer has not been changed, but does remain on the table. For his part, Vinicius has not been content with the start to life under Xabi Alonso, but accepts that he must improve his performances too.
Certainly it seems that if one side does not compromise, and history would suggest Los Blancos expect it to be Vinicius, then he could be on his way out of the club. Given the length of his contract, the reality is that they need to resolve the matter sooner rather than later.
