Alan Shearer and Troy Deeney have named Brian Brobbey and Chris Rigg in their teams of the week after Sunderland's 2-1 victory at Newcastle. On The Rest Is Football, Shearer selected the Dutch striker following his decisive display.

Regis Le Bris' side fell behind in the 10th minute at St James' Park, then levelled through Chemsdine Talbi. Brobbey struck in the 90th minute to silence the home crowd and seal the comeback.

Shearer also included Everton's Beto and former Sunderland loanee Danny Welbeck, who both scored twice at the weekend. His XI featured Nottingham Forest pair Matz Sels and Nikola Milosevic, Brighton duo Jan Paul van Hecke and Ferdi Kadioglu, plus James Tarkowski, James Garner, Morgan Gibbs-White and John McGinn.

Reflecting on the derby, he described Brobbey as Sunderland's standout and noted the £17 million fee paid to Ajax. He contrasted that with Newcastle's summer recruitment up front and criticised their inconsistency and second-half response.

Deeney highlighted Rigg's mature shift on the right flank, stressing solidity over spectacle. The teenager's assured work caught the former Watford striker's eye.
