Albion’s Second Tier Season Comparison – 7 games

Immagine dell'articolo:Albion’s Second Tier Season Comparison – 7 games

Josh Maja’s seventh goal in seven league games was not enough to prevent Albion from going down to their first defeat of the season, but results elsewhere meant that the Baggies maintained top spot in the Championship. With Mowatt also scoring, Karlan Grant remains Albion’s only league goalscorer this season whose surname does not begin with ‘M’.

Despite the defeat, it is still Albion’s best start to a league season since 2019 when Slaven Bilić’s team had 17 points from the first seven games – every team in our comparison seasons that has five wins from the opening seven games has gone on to win promotion.

The Baggies conceded more goals at Hillsborough than they had in the previous six league games but five goals conceded in seven matches is still the best defensive record at this stage since 2006, and Albion have conceded fewer goals at this stage on only six occasions, most recently in 1992.
