Ruben Amorim received significant backlash for his handling of Manchester United academy players during his 14-month spell.
The Portuguese tactician failed to start any academy player in the Premier League this season.
Kobbie Mainoo, who is considered one of the best talents to come through the club’s youth setup, was nearly pushed out of the club. It will be interesting to see how the young midfielder fares following Amorim’s sacking.
Last summer, Amorim offloaded the highly rated Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea, and the winger’s performances have only vindicated the former United head coach’s ruthless decision.
Garnacho, who joined Chelsea for a fixed fee of £40 million, has struggled to find his feet at Stamford Bridge.
According to Fichajes, Garnacho is “seriously considering a loan move” in pursuit of regular minutes in a stable environment. Chelsea underwent a managerial change at the turn of the year, replacing Enzo Maresca with Liam Rosenior.
The Argentina international reportedly feels ready to take on a new challenge in order to secure a spot in Lionel Scaloni’s World Cup squad.
The Spanish outlet claims Atletico Madrid are working on signing Garnacho on loan this month, having already held talks with Chelsea and the left-sided winger.
It is understood Diego Simeone has “given his approval to the transfer.”
The Atletico boss is thought to be an admirer of Garnacho’s dribbling ability and the intensity he offers with and without the ball.
A move to the Spanish capital would be a full circle moment for Garnacho, who left Atletico’s academy to join United in 2020.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils are believed to be monitoring Atletico academy graduate Pablo Barrios. The 22-year-old midfielder has also attracted interest from Manchester City.
