Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has drawn one step closer to an exit from Old Trafford after the latest decision by Chelsea over their transfer plans this summer, according to a report.

United are actively looking to sell Garnacho after the Argentina international’s public fall out with Ruben Amorim.

The pair clashed over the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in May with Amorim telling Garnacho to “find a new club” in a team meeting a few days after the match.

As a result, Garnacho has been designated as part of the ‘bomb squad’ at Carrington – a group of players made to train separately from the first-team squad as the club pushes for their exit at Amorim’s request, including Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Tyrell Malacia.

Of the five, United had been hoping to command the biggest fee for Garnacho given his strong track-record relative to his age, and his inexpensive wage packet.

A valuation of £70 million was set in January amidst interest from Chelsea and Serie A champions Napoli, with neither team prepared to meet this price in the winter window.

But there has been a distinct lack of tangible interest in Garnacho this summer, despite a number of clubs being linked, and United have now cut their asking price to around the £40-50 million mark.

Chelsea Leading the Race

One major reservation potential suitors were believed to hold over a move for Garnacho was the 21-year-old’s attitude, after a series of public displays of unprofessionalism over the past two seasons, under both Amorim and Erik ten Hag.

Chelsea were reported to be one side who were considering this issue as far back as January.

However, after “carrying out a series of background checks” on Garnacho, the Blues now have “no concerns” over signing the winger and are “expected to make an offer” before the summer window closes, according to The Telegraph.

“Garnacho has been a long-term target of Chelsea, who are understood to be the favoured destination of the Argentine this summer. [They] are expected to make an offer for Garnacho before the transfer window shuts, but may have to wait for United’s search for a new striker to come to an end with the Old Trafford club hoping to sign Benjamin Sesko.

“Telegraph Sport can reveal that Chelsea have done their homework on Garnacho, which has included a series of background checks into his character and personality.

“It is believed that Chelsea are comfortable with the results of their checks and waiting to clinch the outgoings they need and the green light from United to proceed. United’s valuation of Garnacho will be key to any deal going ahead.”

With every party involved in this deal actively pushing for it to happen, this feels like a transfer saga which will end in only one direction – Garnacho heading south to the west of London. It will just depend on what price United are willing to compromise to in order to facilitate it happening.
