The President of Serie C outfit Sestri Levante has questioned the fact that Alex Jimenez was able to play for the Milan Futuro side over the weekend while he was suspended in Serie A. ‘Does it seem fair to you?’

Jimenez picked up his fifth Serie A yellow card of the 2024-25 season during Milan’s 2-1 loss against Napoli, and was therefore suspended for the 2-2 draw against Fiorentina in the weekend just gone.

As his suspension was competition-specific, the Spaniard was still allowed to play for the affiliated Milan Futuro side in Serie C. The Milan ‘reserve’ team are enduring a tough start to life in the senior leagues in what is their maiden campaign, and are still at risk of relegation at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

Milan Futuro currently sit in 17th place in their Serie C table, although they were in 18th prior to the weekend.

They are now up to 30 points after a 2-1 victory over Sestri Levante, a game in which Jimenez, who already has 15 Serie A appearances this season, played the full 90 minutes.

The fact that the 19-year-old was eligible to play despite being suspended in Serie A has caused frustration among Sestri Levante officials, as Milan Futuro are a direct rival in the scrap to avoid relegation from Serie C.

Club President Stefano Risaliti was particularly frustrated, as Sestri Levante’s head coach Alberto Ruvo had to serve a suspension during his first-two games in charge due to a punishment he earned while with his former club Fezzanese in Serie D.

“Jimenez can play in Serie C while suspended in Serie A. Our coach Ruvo, who had been given a suspension at the beginning of the season while with a Serie D club, had to serve it during the first two games in Serie C and could not lead us against Campobasso or Ternana.

“Does it seem fair to you?,” Risaliti asked after Milan Futuro beat Sestri Levante 2-1 in a relegation six-pointed over the weekend.
