Ligue 1’s benches are on the move as Alexandre Dujeux leaves Angers to take charge of Lorient on a two-season deal, with Stéphane Gilli appointed to replace him at Angers. Le Progres reports both appointments were confirmed on Tuesday.
Dujeux, 50, succeeds Olivier Pantaloni and had been in post at Angers since March 2023. He agreed last week to terminate a contract that still had two years to run before sealing the Lorient job.
A former defender with more than 400 games for Châteauroux, Ajaccio and Tours, he later assisted Pantaloni and Gérald Baticle before taking charge at Angers in March 2023, failing to avoid relegation but securing immediate promotion despite his wife’s death in December 2023.
He described Lorient as a structured, ambitious club on an upward track, and said its methods and momentum appealed to him. Lorient were unable to keep Pantaloni after two seasons of strong results and attractive play, the Corsican rejecting a significant offer to extend because a potential break clause felt to him like a sign of mistrust.
Angers have handed Gilli, 52, a two-season contract. He was dismissed by Paris FC in late February, having taken the capital’s second club into the top flight the previous season. He previously served as an assistant to Mecha Bazdarevic, René Girard and Vahid Halilhodzic with clubs and with Bosnia-Herzegovina and Morocco.
Pantaloni could move quickly to Lens if Pierre Sage’s departure for Crystal Palace is confirmed.
