FLW has ranked the potential strength of each Championship side's away following

The power and loyalty of fanbases have, and are always likely to be, a hot topic of discussion on various social media platforms.

As is so often the case, the Championship provides a strong and nice blend of clubs with varying levels of many aspects, with the sheer amount of supporters they are able to attract for several reasons being one of those.

One element which can often make or break how a specific fanbase is viewed is the noise they can generate, as well as the numbers they are able to bring to the table, particularly when away from home in smaller allocations.

Of course, the various capacity of historic and modern stadiums in the division means such figures and noise levels will fluctuate, making the opinion of outsiders extremely relative to their own experiences, as well as the occasional clip of a chant or 'limbs' which can go viral on social media.

Here at Football League World, we have now ranked each of the 24 Championship sides on their ability to pack out an away end on a consistent basis, from the least to the most regular, and here is the subsequent order.

One fanbase does, unfortunately, have to come last, although some would say it is no surprise that it is Oxford United.

It is a credit to how the club has been ran in recent times that they are enjoying their first spell in the second-tier for approximately 25 years. However, it's fair to say that the overall number of supporters is still nowhere near the same level as many ex-Premier League clubs who are now seen as divisional rivals, particularly when away from the hugely unpopular Kassam Stadium.

23 ? ? Watford

Despite being one of those former top-flight clubs, Watford's away support has often been criticised, although low numbers have been somewhat understandable due to the timing of fixtures and the recent trajectory of the club.

Hornets supporters will often take strong numbers when an away fixture is nearby or has a significant implication on their season, but those days can be very few and far between.

22 ? ? Swansea City

In a similar position are Swansea City, whose supporters, it must be said, have at least one hour of travelling before reaching their closest away fixture this term, which recently came against Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

With a new TV deal often impacting the kick-off time of games, it is no surprise that this makes it particularly difficult or unattractive for the South Wales locals to start their 'away day' ventures at the crack of dawn.

21 ? ? Blackburn Rovers

Blackburn Rovers' fanbase is up next, with support in this part of East Lancashire often dividing opinion.

Like many other support bases, it comes as no surprise that attendances have massively plummeted due to disillusionment with ownership group, The Venky's.

However, on occasions, Rovers supporters do travel well, with there being the benefit of many away grounds which aren't the furthest to get to, particularly the cluster of clubs in the North West, the Midlands and across the M62 in Yorkshire.

20 ? ? Wrexham

For many Wrexham supporters, the Championship is unchartered territory, meaning there are groundticks aplenty for those in North Wales.

As such, it isn't the greatest of surprises that away ends will be fairly full as the Red Dragons look to continue their upward trajectory under Phil Parkinson.

However, it will be questioned by supporters of other clubs that such loyalty hasn't been displayed in numbers throughout the course of recent history, particularly during the club's National League days.

19 ? ? Preston North End

Next up is the Preston North End fanbase, who have become accustomed to making journeys to all 23 other Championship stadiums across the last decade.

As has been previously mentioned, Lilywhites supporters have been known to take great numbers to away games that are within a reasonable distance from Preston, or ones which bear great significance to their season as a whole, which could be the case in 2026 should Paul Heckingbottom's side remain in and around the play-off picture.

18 ? ? Queens Park Rangers

Again, Queens Park Rangers' fanbase have gained a similar reputation, albeit there are several encounters not too far away from West London which can increase the number of supporters taken on an away trip.

However, in recent seasons, it hasn't been the case that Hoops fans have sold out allocations on a consistent basis, which, given the club's prior trajectory, may come as no surprise.

17 ? ? Millwall

A rather controversial and intriguing pick is up next in the form of Millwall's fanbase.

The reputation which has surrounded Lions' supporters for decades can, at times, even impact the allocation given in the first place. But, they haven't always sold out an away end on a regular basis either.

With that being said, they are one of a select few who still gain respect from opposition supporters for being vociferous, even if numbers don't always back up such thoughts.

16 ? ? Bristol City

Bristol City's fans are next up.

Whilst the atmosphere and attendance figures at Ashton Gate have improved in recent times, the same just can't quite be said when it comes to travelling contingents at present.

However, like Swansea, there is the obvious geographical factor and subsequent costs, which can make certain away fixtures less appealing to those in the West Country.

15 ? ? Charlton Athletic

Charlton Athletic supporters have been treated to an enjoyable recent ride under Nathan Jones. However, those in this part of South London would also like to see away results and performances back up the relatively strong numbers which follow the Reds away from the capital.

Unsurprisingly, Addicks fans regularly sold out smaller allocations in League One, and have continued to take relatively strong numbers to opposition grounds in the Championship thus far.
